Working in the Singapore

Work Permits

Singapore is great place to work. Nearly 500000 foreign workers are working in different industries in Singapore.

To work in Singapore, an Employment Pass (EP) is required. A local sponsor, your employer in most cases, is required to apply for the Pass. There are four categories of employment passes, as follows:

1) P Pass

For foreigners seeking professional, managerial, executive and specialist jobs.

A P1 Pass will be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$7,000.
A P2 Pass will be issued if the applicant's monthly basic salary is more than S$3,500 and he / she possesses recognized qualifications.
With a P Pass, your spouse, adopted children and dependent children below 21 years of age may accompany you on Dependant's Passes. Aged parents and parents-in-law can also visit a P Pass holder on long term social visit passes.

2) Q1 Pass

For foreigners whose monthly basic salary are more than S$2,500 and possess recognised qualifications.

Compensatory factors such as skills and years of experience may be taken into consideration for Q1 applications. You may also obtain Dependant's Passes for your spouse and children. To check if you qualify for an Employment Pass, please take the Employment Pass Self-Assessment Test.

3) S Pass (A new category of Work Pass which replaces the Q2 Pass)

For foreigners whose monthly basic salary is at least S$1,800. S Pass applicants will be assessed on a points system, taking into account multiple criteria including salary, education qualifications, skills, job type and work experience. A levy of S$50 per month will apply and there will be a 5% cap on the number of S Pass holders in each company based on the company's number of local workers and Work Permit holders.
